YAMAHA RX- A3070 vs RX-A3060

Yamaha RX a3070 and RX a3060 are two receivers that are not very different, these two av receivers both have an almost identical design having an aluminum front panel and a frame that is in shape of an L.

I spent a few days and hours researching extensively, Yamaha RX- A3070 and the Yamaha RX-A3060, to determine which of these AVRs is the best audio-video receiver.

YAMAHA RX- A3070 AV receivers are better than Yamaha RX-A3060. The main difference is their high-end sound quality the elite series produces and price range. Yamaha RX A3070 offers unparalleled high-quality sound with clarity than the budget series A3060, which is not well worth considering if you are in the market for a high-end AV receiver.

There are two broad categories of Yamaha RX AV receivers – the high-end Yamaha RX A3070 Elite Series and the budget RX A3060 Series. Elite RX 3070 Series are high-end AV receivers at a slightly higher price, and the Yamaha A3060 is reasonably lower.

YAMAHA RX- A3070 stands out as the best audio video receiver compared to the Yamaha RX-A3060. Though the price range of these popular AVRs is not that far apart, the Yamaha RX A3070 is by far an unparalleled audio-video receiver with high-quality audio-video delivery and DTS ATMOS technology worth the money.

The two utilize a fifth foot, which is placed in the center for the purpose of damping vibrations from internal components like the power transformer and some power transistors, also this fifth foot is used for damping vibrations from some external sources such as speakers.

The RX a3070 is a Yamaha flagship released by Yamaha on July 7 2017, and it is designed to deliver the highest level of audio, best high-class performance and the highest level of processing power it is definitely a talented Av receiver with a premium price that matches the performance.

While the RX a3060 was also released in July 2016 offering almost the exact same perfomance as the rx a 3070.

These two Av receivers are almost clones of each other but on this article, I will highlight the little differences they have.

FEATURES RX-A3070 vs RX-A3060

Obviously the RX-a3070 is a flagship that was released long after the RX-a3060 so as expected by consumers it should offer much better sound, it should offer a better processor , if not completely different it should at least have some sort of advancements from its predecessor in order to give consumers a reason to upgrade.

So as said above these two are practically clones of each other but is it enough for you to stick to the old one and not advance with the times?

So, why not put them side by side and see just what improvements Yamaha has made on the RX-a3070 receiver in order to make consumers upgrade from the rx-a3060 to the RX-a3060?

The a3070 model has 9 channels of amplification and you can also add a second amplifier if you so wish to take advantage of the 11.2 channel processing the AVR has got.

On the other hand, the older model Rx-a3060 also has the 9 channels of amplification, there is literally no difference between the two in terms of preamp sections especially considering they also both have 11.2 channel pre-outs.

The two receivers support up to 2 subwoofers with built-in amplifiers, they also give you an option of expanding channels up to 7.2.4 via an external 2 channel amplifier.

However, without an external 2 channel amplifier, they are still able to drive a Dolby atmos speaker set up to 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 channel.

They have 2 extra SP 1-2 terminals that can be assigned to zone 2/3 via the power amp assign setting but unfortunately doing so will leave you with less available amp channels for your main zone.

I guess the differences begin here as the RX-a3070 has ES9026PRO digital-to-analog converters (DACS) that are used for the main 7 channels which is actually an upgrade from the ES9016A digital -to -analog converters on the RX-a3060 used for the 7 main channels.

The other new features that you can expect from the pro- rx a3070 are that there is total harmonic distortion (THD) compensation as well as user-selectable Digital Filter Types,it even allows you to choose either sharp or slow roll-off type’ or short latency type for the digital filter type of the digital filter types.

CONNECTIONS

Looking at front panel connections the only difference you can expect from these two is that the RX -a3070 omits the composite video input that can also be found on the rx-a3060.

The back I/O panel holds a few differences the rx- a 3060 has got 3 component video inputs and also 1 output while the rx-a3070 has got only 2 component video inputs and no component video outputs.

Another difference is that only the rx-a3070 is equipped with the XLR jack which allows transmitting analog audio signals via an XLR cable that is balanced however for this to work you will need a device that has some balanced output terminals.

All in all back to where they are like twins literally clones, however both receivers have 8 HDMI inputs 7 on the rear end and 1 on the front and 2 HDMI outputs.

The Yamaha parametric room acoustic optimizer is utilized by both the receivers RX-3060 and the rx- 3070, a YPAO microphone comes with both the receivers and on the front panel you will find a ypao microphone jack of both rx-3060 and rx-3070.

Another feature is that during the automatic system calibration speakers are detected and the distances to your listening positions are then measured.

The advantage of Yamaha Rx-3070 over Yamaha RX-3060 is that only it supports tidal and Deezer which is a huge plus for some consumers.

Overall after looking at both receivers, their strengths and weakness the RX-a3070 seems to be a stronger contender which is expected considering it is supposed to be an upgrade.

Though they are literally clones of each other and pretty much the RX- a3060 has almost everything the newer model has but in the end the few updates that the RX-3070 had got seem to make it a winner and for some consumers it might be enough to upgrade.
